Carol Harkavy

A former teacher of English and Speech at The City College of New York, Carol Harkavy’s dream was always to be a published author.  She had been keeping journals for more than half of her almost 80 years, and it was these journal entries that formed the foundation of her first memoir, Rosie (and me), which was published in 2017.

The memoir has been described as a love story between the author and her mother, both of whom enjoyed a mutually loving and unbreakable bond.  It further tells the story of her mother Rosie, a woman beset with a myriad of ailments and struggles, who is determined to find happiness despite her physical hurdles and limitations.  She achieves this goal through perseverance, acceptance, and unbridled optimism.

As she approached her three-quarter of a century mark, Carol became more and more determined to continue her lifelong endeavor of being a published author.  After perusing hundreds of her personal handwritten journal entries that spanned more than three decades, it became clear to her that she had the foundation for a memoir filled with life lessons that traversed not only time and place but family dynamics, personal growth, and emotions as well. Having already accomplished what once seemed impossible, along with following Nelson Mandela’s advice that “It always seems impossible until it’s done,” Carol persevered and published Vignettes on Life:  Reflections of a Septuagenarian in 2023.

She lives in New Jersey with her husband of 57 years.

She is also the Chief Proofreading Editor for Milan Book Publishing.
